Gilberton Outback Retreat

Another 56km along the road from Agate Creek for off-road vehicles and trailers,  the gorgeous Gilberton Outback Retreat awaits. The retreat is set on the banks of the Gilbert River on the seventh generation occupied Gilberton Station. The accommodation puts guests front and centre in the outback with panoramic views to take in from the verandah of their very own luxurious tin shed.

While this might sound like an oxymoron, at Gilberton, where owners Rob and Lyn French take country hospitality to another level, everything is exactly as it should be.

“The fact that we are a five star exclusive private luxury getaway off the beaten track makes the retreat incredibly unique and special. Our family has been here since 1869 and our guests just love hearing about the history of Gilberton Station. As far as we know there isn’t anything like this in the Tropical North,” Lyn says.

With the bush awaiting intrepid explorers, and no phone reception, television or internet available, Lyn says there is nothing else to do but simply switch off and soak up the peace and tranquillity of this exclusive private retreat. “Guests can go at their own pace and enjoy activities such as a visit to the granite cathedral and natural springs, or Lake Fred for lunch, swimming, fishing and kayaking. Twitching and mountain biking are also popular activities, while organised tours taking in Aboriginal rock art, our working cattle station and gold fossicking can also be arranged.,” she adds.
